Development of solutions for the reliable and safe operation of hydrogen/fuel cell technology in the powertrains of future aircraft
The objective is to develop solutions for the reliable and safe operation of hydrogen/fuel cell technology in the powertrains of future aircraft. Building on the research results of the predecessor project BILBO, the H2-to-torque approach (direct coupling of the fuel cells with the engine) is to be advanced in BETA, as a variable drive solution for a range of applications. The necessary components will first be tested individually. Subsequently, they will be tested in combination using an application-oriented laboratory platform to enable the data obtained to be used in simulation/modelling to determine the potential for optimisation and application.
