Fuel cell-based powertrain for aircraft 1.5+ MW
In order to meet the challenges of zero-emission multi-megawatt powertrains in the field of aviation with 40-160 passengers, revolutionary approaches are required – both technologically and structurally. The aim of the BALIS project is to create and test the world’s first fuel cell-based 1.5 MW drive train as the basis for multi-megawatt (up to 10 MW) drives for aviation applications. The test infrastructure required for this is an essential part of the project. Tools for calculating the necessary hydrogen infrastructure are also being developed.
