Good news from Europe: The “KsNI” guideline for funding commercial vehicles with alternative, climate-protecting drives and the associated refuelling and charging infrastructure (KsNI – “Richtlinie über die Förderung von Nutzfahrzeugen mit alternativen, klimaschonenden Antrieben und dazugehörigen Tank- und Ladeinfrastruktur”) of the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport (BMDV) can be continued on a larger scale following renewed approval by the European Commission.

The term of the funding programme will be extended from the end of 2024 to the end of 2026. This will improve planning security for users and manufacturers. In addition, the total funding of the guideline will be increased so that the high demand can also be met in the future. Already in the second funding call, about four times more applications for funding of vehicles, associated infrastructure and feasibility studies were submitted than in the first call. Consequently, the maximum amount of funding that can be granted for vehicles, infrastructure and feasibility studies per applicant has been increased.

The guideline was first approved and published by the European Commission in 2021. The BMDV is making a total of around 1.3 billion euros available up to 2025 to support the acquisition of climate-friendly commercial vehicles. In addition, around 6.3 billion euros will be available by 2025 for the construction or expansion of refuelling and charging infrastructure for cars and trucks.
