With immediate effect, the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI – Bundesministerium für Verkehr und digitale Infrastruktur) is providing investment funding to support both environmentally friendly on-board power systems for sea-going and inland waterway vessels as well as mobile shore power systems (containerised, rolling or floating) in sea and inland ports.
The funding programme, which promotes the market activation of alternative technologies for the environmentally friendly supply of on-board and mobile shore power to seagoing and inland ships, BordstromTech (“OnboardPowerTech”), is intended to boost investment in alternative technologies for the environmentally friendly supply of on-board and mobile shore power and thus reduce the impact of ship emissions in German seaports and inland ports.
The BordstromTech funding programme provides investment grants for the upgrading of seagoing and inland waterway vessels for shore power use, for on-board power generation from alternative energy sources or for the procurement of mobile shore power systems in sea and inland ports. Eligible recipients are both private and public sector enterprises in the field of shipping and port management. Applications can be submitted as of now until 30 September 2022.
All information on the funding programme and the application procedure can be found on the German language website of the Federal Office for Administrative Services (BAV – Bundesanstalt für Verwaltungsdienstleistungen): www.bav.bund.de/DE/4_Foerderprogramme/98_Foerderung_Bordstrom/Foerderung_Bordstrom_node.html
By means of this BMVI support programme, environmentally friendly on-board power will become competitively offered and the path towards the market for alternative technologies for the on-board power supply of ships will be paved. The funding for the promotion of this technology comes from the Federal Government’s Mobility and Fuels Strategy (MFS).
