The deadline for submitting applications in the HyExperts and HyPerformer categories of the “HyLand – Hydrogen Regions in Germany” competition has now closed. 28 regions submitted their application to become HyExperts, while six regions aspire to become HyPerformers.
With this second and third stage, the competition of the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure addressed regions that have already gained initial experience with hydrogen in the energy system or those seeking to implement existing concepts. The high number of applications received confirms the pronounced interest throughout Germany in rethinking the energy supply situation in the regions and orienting it towards the future.
In the next step, a jury of experts will select 5 regions each, which will be given the opportunity as HyExperts to receive support in the creation and calculation of specific project ideas for hydrogen concepts.
Awaiting the region selected by the jury in the HyPerformer category as a reward are investment funds for the concrete implementation of regional concepts with hydrogen and fuel cells.
In a first round of competition in 2019, nine German regions were selected as HyStarters. They will be supported in developing a local network of stakeholders and developing an initial hydrogen concept for their region.
