Steffen Bilger, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, launches the first task force as part of the implementation of the BMVI's overall climate-friendly commercial vehicles concept.

The task force will tackle the issue of minimum standards for the conversion of conventionally powered commercial vehicles to alternative, climate-friendly drive systems.

Bilger: “By 2030, a third of the mileage undertaken by heavy road freight transport should be electric or powered by electricity-based fuels. To achieve this goal, the number of commercial vehicles with alternative drive systems that are driven on the roads must increase. Converting vehicles to use electric drivetrains will make a significant contribution to this. The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure will therefore also provide funding support for the procurement of brand-new and converted commercial vehicles with alternative drive systems. The task force that has now been launched will develop the basic standards for the conversion of commercial vehicles. I invite all interested stakeholders to participate in the task force.”

NOW GmbH is closely involved in the implementation of the measures, as well as in the further shaping of the stakeholder process within the scope of the overall concept for climate-friendly commercial vehicles and in the coordination of a corresponding funding programme, which is scheduled to begin in spring 2021.

The task force began an expression of interest process that closed on Feb. 21, 2021. Please direct inquiries to .
