On 30 May 2018 Zwickauer Energieversorgung GmbH (ZEV) commissioned a new charging column for electric vehicles. The column is equipped with two charging spaces, each with a capacity of 22kW.

It can be activated by smartphone and by means of an RFID card. Thus ZEV is now providing the opportunity to charge e-vehicles at four publicly accessible locations in Zwickau. The construction of three more columns is planned, one of which will offer a fast-charging facility.

The new charging columns in Bahnhofstrasse 5 as well as the three planned stations will be funded under the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles funding guideline (LIS) through the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure totalling up to 24,877 euros. NOW GmbH National Organisation Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology coordinates the implementation of the funding guideline.
