The virtual “Sino German Electro Mobility Innovation and Support Center” (SGEC) coordinates activities and projects of the German-Chinese cooperation on electric mobility with battery and hydrogen fuel cell technology. Partners are the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI – Bundesministerium für Verkehr und Digitale Infrastruktur) and the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China (MoST).

The supervision of individual thematic areas in the SGEC for the period from spring 2020 is to be continued, the call for proposals is open as of immediately (in German):

The persons responsible for the thematic areas are appointed by the BMVI for monitoring, coordination, networking and the first point of contact for enquiries, also by those interested in the project in the early coordination phase. Four lots will be awarded for the individual thematic areas:

  • Battery electric mobility (incl. charging infrastructure)
  • Hydrogen fuel cell mobility (incl. infrastructure)
  • Safety (battery and hydrogen)
  • Integration of renewable sources of energy

The SGEC comprises the framework for the continuation of the partnerships with the Chinese regions in the context of the Memorandum of Understanding of the Ministries, for supra-regional scientific exchanges and for the implementation of market-oriented demonstration projects.

The Center is jointly managed by Germany and China. The countries maintain parallel coordination structures and finance only their national activities. The SGEC is intended to advance the market ramp-up of electric vehicles (batteries and fuel cells) in China for German companies and to build on China’s experience in the field of electric mobility in research and development.

National partners from both countries such as universities, research institutions or industry partners will be involved in SGEC activities. The SGEC also serves to maintain existing partnerships and initiate new collaborations.
