The Coradia iLint has begun regular scheduled service. Since 17 September 2018 two Alstom hydrogen trains are operating on the route between Cuxhaven, Buxtehude, Bremerhaven and Bremervörde.

12 more trains of this kind are to follow and completely replace the conventional diesel railcars of the Elbe-Weser-Verkehrstriebe (Elbe-Weser transport companies) by 2021. Together with representatives from state and federal politics, Enak Ferlemann, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, was a guest onboard the new train.

On a full tank, the train has a range of 1,000 kilometres with a top speed of around 140 kilometres per hour. Hydrogen will initially be obtained from the chemical industry. In two years however, supply will be switched to green hydrogen from renewable energies.
