With the so-called “Streetscooter”, another fully electric vehicle of Freiburg's waste disposal and municipal cleaning company (ASF – Abfallwirtschaft und Stadtreinigung Freiburg GmbH) is now on the roads in Freiburg.
Around 20 waste receptacles are delivered daily to municipal and commercial customers with this container service vehicle. As a result of the eye-catching design of the vehicle, ASF is anticipating a maximum level visibility and recognition. With the acquisition of an electric sweeper in 2017, ASF has been consistently pursuing an approach that reconciles environmental and other municipal requirements.
The example of the Streetscooter demonstrates that electric mobility in the commercial vehicle sector of the waste disposal industry is not yet a self-starter. Due to the lack of suitable mass-produced vehicles, a special design based on an existing type of electric vehicle was especially developed for ASF. With a range of 120 km, the vehicle is ideally suited for container deliveries in Freiburg.
As part of the local electric mobility funding guideline (“Förderrichtlinie Elektromobilität vor Ort”), coordinated by NOW GmbH, the Streetscooter was financially supported by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure with funding totalling €27,300.
