Within the electric mobility funding programme of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), project ideas for practically-oriented research and demonstration projects may now be submitted to promote battery electric mobility.

The funding priorities of the new call are:

  • Application-oriented research and development (so-called demo large-scale projects): here research questions are to be answered that arise from the use of existing vehicle fleets (fleet mixes also eligible) and the infrastructure required for operation – with the prospect of further development.
  • Technological research and development in application areas with less vehicle availability (market availability), including in the application areas of goods/ commercial transport (trucks in particular), buses, ships and special transport.

Those eligible to apply are commercial companies, universities, extramural research institutions, regional authorities and non-profit organisations. In order to foster application-oriented research, preference will be given to projects proposals that directly involve manufacturers, operators and users of vehicles and infrastructure as well as component manufacturers, energy providers and transport operators. Municipal companies and private sector companies in the direct municipal area can also apply. The deadline for submissions is 15 August 2019.

Through the “Electric mobility funding programme”, the BMVI supports the procurement of electric vehicles, the building of infrastructure and the formulation of municipal electric mobility concepts as well as application-oriented research and development projects. Until 2019, an annual budget of around 30 million euros has been allocated to the funding guideline. NOW GmbH is tasked with coordinating and managing the funding programme.

The funding call is available to view immediately here on the NOW homepage. Applications can be submitted through the easy-Online Portal.
