The roll-out of alternative fuels is a necessary prerequisite for achieving climate objectives – particularly in air and maritime transport, but also in other areas, such as long-haul road freight.
Depending on the area of application, biofuels or electricity-based fuels from renewables could be used in the relevant transport subsector to reduce greenhouse gases.

The paper also offers a proposal for a common, structured language regime for alternative fuel terminology.
