The district administration of Esslingen is initiating the development of an electric mobility concept. As a district-wide plan, the concept is to highlight the potentials in electric mobility and promote targeted investments. The electric mobility concept is funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure within the framework of the “Local Electric Mobility” (“Elektromobilität vor Ort”) funding guideline. Implementation will be coordinated by NOW GmbH.

At the heart of the project is a concept for the comprehensive, demand-oriented expansion of the charging infrastructure in the district. With the identification of appropriate demand areas for the charging points, the district of Esslingen is creating an important basis for a significant increase in the proportion of electric vehicles in motorised private transportation. This has a direct positive effect on pollutant, CO2 and noise emissions. The electric mobility concept sets the course for environmentally friendly and sustainable mobility by determining the potential in the electrification of local public transport and the networking of transport modes. Through a fleet analysis and a potential analysis for the new building of the district administration office, the district administration is also looking at itself and creating the conditions for a modern new building that meets the requirements of the mobility needs of the future. Within the framework of the concept development, existing plans and projects of the district municipalities are incorporated. In this way, a high degree of interconnectedness is ensured.

Concept development is expected to be completed in the second half of 2020 and will subsequently become publicly available. The concept will include a detailed action plan as well as demand forecasts for the entire district area. With the Esslingen district electric mobility concept, a project is being implemented that was identified in the Esslingen district “future dialogue” (“Zukunftsdialog”) as part of a participation process.
