Fuel cell passenger cars are a useful complement to battery electric vehicles or those powered by synthetic fuels, because not all customer requirements can be met by vehicles with these drive systems. For years, Asian manufacturers have been demonstrating that fuel cell technology is also ready for the market in the passenger car segment, and that fuel cell passenger cars can be mass-produced.
The overriding goal for the passenger car segment is to provide a competitive, customer-value fuel cell vehicle range by exploiting cost advantages over conventional, battery-electric, and hybrid vehicles through optimization of the technology and realization of sustainable product concepts.
This includes the further development of subsystems and components along the value chain as well as the development of the manufacturing technology basis for cost-effective series production through sustainable product concepts and improved materials, methods/processes as well as increased power densities and service lives.
