The Inter-state Mobility Network, managed by the Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building (BMWSB – Bundesministerium für Wohnen, Stadtentwicklung und Bauwesen), is now online.

Information about the network can be found at www.mobilikon.de/laenderuebergreifendes-mobilitaetsnetzwerk. As of now, an overview map of members and the first results of the thematic working groups are available here for download.

In the Inter-state Mobility Network, the federal government, the states and key municipal organisations support the federal states in the establishment and development of state networks, and these help the municipalities to develop demand-based mobility solutions. The network works together on current mobility issues and focusses on the rural space in particular. The network members develop products and ideas together for work on the state level. As a competent partner with considerable expertise in the mobility area, the network cooperates with relevant players in the field.

At the third network meeting on 16/03/2022, the members discussed further collaboration: for 2022, the focus will be on topics such as funding procedures, mobility management, active mobility in the rural space and linking urban and rural transport.

In addition, the first results of the working groups were presented. These include practical guides and factsheets on many topics relevant to the states and the municipalities in the area of sustainable mobility, for example, how to build a network, create human resources or communicate mobility topics tailored to the target group. These guides are available now for download free of charge.

At the beginning of 2021, the Federal Ministry of the Interior and for Community (BMI) tasked NOW GmbH with setting up an office to establish an inter-state network to improve mobility in the rural space. As of 2021, the responsibility switched from the BMI to the BMWSB. NOW supports the network and also makes the results available to its members. The network also works closely together with the National Competence Network for Sustainable Mobility (NaKoMo) of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV). The Inter-state Mobility Network is financed by the Region gestalten programme (Shaping regions).
