The H2 Region Emsland opens its administrative office in the BMVI-funded “HyExperts” – concept development for the establishment of a green hydrogen economy project.

The Emsland region was designated as one of 13 “HyExperts” regions in the field of hydrogen technology by Federal Minister of Transport, Andreas Scheuer, in December 2019. Now, the project, which is being supported with funds of €300,000, has been officially launched. The main task: To develop a feasible overall concept for the establishment and expansion of a green hydrogen economy in Emsland. Coinciding with this, the H2 Region Emsland administrative office was also officially opened. The administrative office will handle the operational management of the project and also serve as a central point of contact for networking activities in the hydrogen field.

Numerous hydrogen projects, initiatives and companies that are already successfully operating in the field of hydrogen technology are active in the H2 region network. “With the HyExperts project, an integrated development concept is now being established for the region. This encompasses, in particular, the registration of green hydrogen production capacities as well as the cross-sectoral hydrogen consumption – both now and in the near future,” explained District Administrator Burgdorf.

The development of Emsland as a hydrogen region is being supported by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure with a project funding volume amounting to €300,000 as part of the National Innovation Programme Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP2). The funding guideline is coordinated by NOW GmbH and implemented by the project administrator Projektträger Jülich (PtJ), with whom the coordination of the project objectives was also coordinated, such as the scientifically based determination of optimal locations for hydrogen filling stations. “The determination of locations is made taking into account the potential customers such as hydrogen-powered buses, sweepers, waste collection vehicles or even fleet vehicles. In order to be able to identify and reconcile individual interests, various working groups are to be formed, for example, to focus on public transport, fleet vehicles or special vehicles,” explains Lord Mayor Krone.

Furthermore, another key area of focus of the “HyExperts – H2 Region Emsland” project is the dissemination of relevant information for Emsland companies and private individuals. This includes, for example, the provision of a digital information platform on the H2 Region Emsland website as well as various online seminars.
