Friday the 18th of June marked the last day for regions and municipalities to submit their application outlines for the HyExperts category in the second round of the “HyLand – Hydrogen Regions in Germany” (“HyLand – Wasserstoffregionen in Deutschland”) competition, organised by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI – Bundesministerium für Verkehr und digitale Infrastruktur). A total of 51 applicants applied for a place among the HyExperts, including eight participants who had already taken part in HyLand I as HyStarters.
Berlin, 23 June 2021 – 51 regions and municipalities have submitted application outlines for the HyExpert category and are therefore applying for the second stage of the “HyLand – Hydrogen Regions in Germany” competition. This category is aimed at regions in which stakeholders already have project approaches that are to be further defined in the course of the support provided and integrated into a joint regional hydrogen concept. All aspects of the regional value chain – production, transport, infrastructure and applications, especially in the transport sector – are to be considered. Funding as a HyExpert region includes a funding notification amounting to 400,000 euros for the commissioning of external service providers to deliver consulting services with regard to technical, legal and economic issues.
Out of the 51 applicants, eight were participants in the first HyLand phase, and have already developed initial regional concepts and created a suitable network for the establishment of a green hydrogen economy in the HyStarter category from 2019-2021. By submitting an application as HyExperts, they now seek to take the next step within the HyLand funding scheme.
Hydrogen regions in Germany
These HyExperts are part of the “HyLand – Hydrogen Regions in Germany” competition, which is already entering its second round. The aim is to offer regions and municipalities the opportunity to make progress in developing hydrogen and fuel cell technology locally and to form corresponding stakeholder networks. In addition to the group of HyExperts, HyLand also focuses on regions that have no previous experience with the integration of hydrogen technology (HyStarter) or those that already intend to put entire concepts into practice (HyPerformer). The application phase for the HyStarter category ended in May. For the HyPerformer category, a corresponding competition phase will be launched at the end of 2021.
