Funding for Climate-Friendly Maritime Applications
The German Federal Government’s Mobility and Fuel Strategy (MKS) is the central platform for shaping the energy transition in transport and thus achieving energy and climate policy goals. NOW GmbH is commissioned to support the Federal Ministry for Transport (BMV) in the further development of the MKS and specific funding measures for its implementation. In particular, it provides support for the implementation of maritime funding programmes for the expansion and conversion of seagoing vessels to use LNG as a marine fuel, as well as the “BordstromTech” funding guideline to reduce ship emissions in seaports and inland ports.
Furthermore, NOW GmbH supports project implementation for fuel cells in maritime applications as part of the National Innovation Programme Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology NIP. The cross-project innovation cluster e4ships has also driven forward regulatory work that is relevant for the use of fuel cells on board seagoing and inland vessels.
The technological options for zero-emission shipping are very diverse. Depending on the ship type and operating profile, ship energy systems can be optimally combined with each other depending on the various fuel options in order to pave the way for the maritime energy transition in the interests of climate protection.
