The National Centre for Charging Infrastructure has published a new course on ‘Truck charging infrastructure at the depot’ on its e-learning platform: LadeLernTOOL. The course is free and shows how to successfully set up charging infrastructure for heavy-duty battery-electric commercial vehicles in private areas such as depots.

Specifically, this means: How can charging infrastructure at depots be designed in such a way as to meet demand? For planning purposes, is the existing grid connection sufficient? How can charging processes best be managed? The new course is geared particularly towards logistics companies in the early phase of converting their fleets, as well as operators of logistics sites who wish to install charging infrastructure at their locations.

The background: At present, road freight transport is almost exclusively based on combustion engines and causes around a third of CO2 emissions in the entire transport sector. Using climate-friendly e-trucks can therefore save an especially large amount of CO2 emissions. Building charging infrastructure in advance is also critical for e-trucks, because in order to ensure efficient logistics processes, electrically-operated vehicles must be able to be charged in a reliable way.

The new course is available now. The e-learning training provides practical knowledge on the planning, setting up and operation of charging infrastructure over three modules. Downloadable checklists offer practical guidance on successfully implementing charging infrastructure projects.

The digital learning platform LadeLernTOOL from the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure aims to provide support to all those involved with the setting up of charging infrastructure on site. Existing courses provide basic knowledge on electric mobility and charging infrastructure, highlight the central role of municipalities in developing charging infrastructure and provide assistance in electrifying municipal vehicle fleets and in optimising planning and approval processes. Each course ends with a test and the acquisition of a certificate. The range of courses on offer is being continually expanded.

LadeLernTOOL is free to use following the completion of a short registration process. Using interactive learning units, users can familiarize themselves on the topic of developing charging infrastructure and consolidate their knowledge through practice-oriented exercises. In addition to StandortTOOL and FlächenTOOL, LadeLern TOOL is one of the key support tools for setting up charging infrastructure that the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure has brought together in its TOOLBox under the umbrella of NOW GmbH.
