Under the patronage of Tobias Goldschmidt (Minister for Energy Transition, Climate Protection, Environment and Nature for the state of Landes Schleswig-Holstein), the H2.0 conference entitled ‘Green hydrogen economy in the regions’ is being held for the fifth time today, 14.09.22 in Husum. It addresses the current state of play, funding and best practice examples.

In addition to the National Organisation Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NOW GmbH), organisers include the Schleswig-Holstein Coordination Office for Hydrogen (Landeskoordinierungsstelle Wasserstoff Schleswig-Holstein), the Clean Energy Partnership (CEP), Messe Husum & Congress and the renewable energies sector association, watt_2.0 e.V..

The opening discussion round between high-ranking representatives from politics and industry garnered great interest. Kurt-Christoph von Knobelsdorff (CEO, NOW GmbH), Andreas Rimkus (Member of the German Federal Parliament , responsible for hydrogen in the SPD), Joschka Knuth (State Secretary, Ministry for Energy Transition, Climate Protection and Nature, Schleswig-Holstein), Bart Biebuyck (Executive Director, Clean Hydrogen Partnership) and Ove Petersen (Managing Director, GP Joule), spoke about the latest challenges, development, and the next steps required to accelerate the development of the hydrogen economy in Germany and Europe.

Examples from the hydrogen regions – national and international

H2 projects from the regions formed the focus of the conference: Prime examples included the hydrogen projects of the nationwide competition: ‘HyLand – hydrogen regions in Germany’. At the podium discussion ‘HyLand Talks’, representatives from the HyExpert regions of Ulm, Fulda and North-East Lower Saxony discussed the challenges and activities around expanding the hydrogen economy across sectors. The conclusion of the speakers were clearly positive in this regard: the HyExpert process has generated a starting point for further planning with concrete projects and an associated partner network.
