The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) is currently preparing a funding guideline for the market ramp-up of electricity-based kerosene to provide a significant contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector. A market test is currently underway for this purpose.
A reduction in greenhouse gas emissions is to be achieved both directly through the quantities of supported PtL production that are put into circulation as well as in the long term, in that the support contributes to the reduction in costs of the innovative PtL technology, so that further PtL production quantities can be made available more cost-effectively in the future. The emphasis of the funding is particularly focused on the production of PtL kerosene, as there is currently a lack of climate-neutral technology alternatives in the aviation sector. Co-products of PtL kerosene production are anticipated for use in heavy-duty shipping and road transport. The funding is expected to be based on a necessary subsidy per produced energy unit of the products (specific contribution margin), with which the applicants enter into a competitive bidding process.
