Abfallzweckverband Rhein-Mosel-Eifel (AZV) receives grants from the KsNI guideline for ten electric waste collection vehicles. Abfallzweckverband Rhein-Mosel-Eifel (AZV) has recently received ten Volvo battery-electric waste collection vehicles at the Eiterköpfe landfill site in Ochtendung, Rhineland-Palatinate.
The purchase of the battery-electric waste collection vehicles was funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport under the guideline for the promotion of light and heavy commercial vehicles with alternative, climate-protecting drives and associated refuelling and charging infrastructure (KsNI) in the amount of about 2.7 million euros. The funding guideline was coordinated by NOW GmbH. Applications are approved by the Federal Logistics and Mobility Office.
Dr. Volker Wissing, Federal Minister for Digital and Transport, sending his greetings from Berlin, said: “We support companies in converting their fleets to clean drive systems. By 2030, we want around one third of heavy road freight mileage to be either electric or based on electricity-based fuels. Residents in the Mayen-Koblenz district will also benefit from the e-waste vehicles, not only because they emit fewer emissions, but because they are also much quieter.”
AZV Association Chairperson Pascal Badziong was delighted to have AZV staff members present for the symbolic handover of keys, alongside federal representatives and municipal actors. After all, that is where the vehicles will be used in future. “Today’s commissioning of the battery-electric waste collection vehicles represents an important milestone for the AZV in terms of sustainability and climate protection. Electric vehicles are not only emission-free, but they are also quieter than conventional vehicles and more climate- and environmentally-friendly overall.”, said Badziong at the vehicle handover event. All participants were greatly interested in the subsequent presentation of one of the vehicles as well as the chance for a test drive.
The AZV successfully tested a one hundred per cent battery-electric waste collection vehicle in a three-week test phase already in 2022. In order for the battery-electric waste-collection vehicles to be recharged at the end of their daily service, their own special charging infrastructure was built. The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport approved funding in the amount of 192,157.11 euros for this purpose.
