Federal Minister Wissing: Nationwide fast-charging infrastructure makes the switch to electric mobility even more appealing

Federal Minister Dr. Volker Wissing, together with Pfalzwerke AG, has today opened a charging station in Landau as part of the Deutschlandnetz. The company now offers convenient and barrier-free charging for electric vehicles at four fast-charging stations and eight charging points near the B10 motorway.

Dr. Volker Wissing, Federal Minister for Digital and Transport: “Fast charging, carefree driving: that’s the Deutschlandnetz. In future, e-car drivers will be able to find an ultra-fast charging station anywhere. We are investing in the charging parks of the future. I am delighted therefore, that Pfalzwerke is opening its first charging location today in my hometown of Landau. People in the region will benefit tangibly from a modern and reliable charging infrastructure. I am certain that the Deutschlandnetz makes the switch to electric mobility even more appealing. With the around 9,000 ultrafast charging points of the Deutschlandnetz, the last remaining gaps on the charging map of Germany will also disappear.”

With the Deutschlandnetz, the Federal Transport Ministry (BMDV) is creating 9,000 additional fast-charging points nationally at over 1,000 locations in rural regions, in cities and at unmanaged motorway rest areas. At around 2.3 billion euros, this makes the Deutschlandnetz the BMDV’s largest funding programme in the area of charging infrastructure. The goal is to provide a nationwide, user-friendly charging infrastructure with CCS plugs and charging capacities of at least 200 kW. The construction and operation of the sites is undertaken by private companies, commissioned by the BMDV.

As operator of around 400 new charging stations at 40 locations, Pfalzwerke is contributing to the realisation of the Deutschlandnetz. Pfalzwerke currently has two Deutschlandnetz locations in operation, in Schotten (Hesse) and in Landau (Rhineland-Palatinate). A further three Deutschlandnetz sites in Buchen, Baesweiler and Göppingen are currently under construction. Start of construction in a further eight sites for the Deutschlandnetz is scheduled to take place in the first half year of 2025.

Paul Anfang, CEO of Pfalzwerke Aktiengesellschaft: “We are firmly convinced that electric mobility is a core building block of future sustainable mobility. We have been investing in the expansion of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in the public space since 2016 and have assumed a pioneering role in the field of medium-sized businesses. We are proud to be a part of the expansion of the Deutschlandnetz and to make our contribution to the availability of nationwide charging facilities. Our common goal is to make electric mobility barrier-free, convenient and reliably accessible.”

The National Centre for Charging Infrastructure, under the umbrella of NOW GmbH, coordinates the implementation of the Deutschlandnetz on behalf of the BMDV and is responsible in particular for demand planning, checking technical requirements as well as data monitoring of the locations.

Dagmar Fehler, CEO and spokesperson of NOW GmbH: “New Deutschlandnetz locations are opening every few days. Huge progress is being made. The Pfalzwerke charging park that has begun operation today in Landau is a win for the environment, industry and local people. Every new charging station makes electric mobility more accessible and suitable for daily use for everyone.”
