BayWa Mobility Solutions GmbH today opened the first fast-charging park in Schwangau. Four fast-charging stations with a total capacity of 1,600 kW (200 kW per charging point) are now available to e-drivers right at the castle brewery (Gipsmühlweg 5). The new charging park is part of the Deutschlandnetz put out to tender by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV).
Dr. Volker Wissing, Federal Minister for Digital and Transport: “The Deutschlandnetz continues to grow: the two new fast-charging sites in Bavaria show how quickly and efficiently the charging infrastructure is expanding. The successful commissioning of 24 locations in nine federal states, including five in Bavaria by BayWa – is a strong sign of progress in terms of fast charging nationwide. Close cooperation between municipal authorities, site owners and operators is a decisive success factor in this regard.”
Christian Krüger, Managing Director of BayWa Mobility Solutions GmbH: “With the opening of our BayWa Mobility Charging Park in Schwangau, we’re not only closing a gap identified by the ministry in the nationwide fast-charging network. We are also fulfilling the clear wish of the community to address the charging needs of local electric car drivers, as well as the many tourists in the region. The fact that only four months lie between the first signature and the opening of this charging park here in Schwangau shows how close networking between operators, municipal authorities and network operators of the charging infrastructure can advance charging infrastructure expansion in an exemplary way.”
Regal charging with a view of Neuschwanstein castle
In the immediate vicinity of Neuschwanstein castle and well-connected to the B17 federal highway, the new charging park ideally blends into the mountain landscape and local transport infrastructure. The electricity for the charging hub is supplied by company subsidiary, BayWa r.e. AG and is 100 per cent generated from renewable energies. The associated grid connection was rapidly carried out by the local supplier Elektrizitätswerke Reutte.
Electric drivers can spend the short charging time on site in the castle brewery or on the minigolf course next door. There are barrier-free accessible toilets that may be used free of charge in the basement of the castle brewery. The charging park also has free internet access via BayernWLAN. Thanks to camera surveillance and lighting, security is assured, also in the evening and during the night at the facility, which is accessible around the clock.
Expansion of the Deutschlandnetz continues
Commissioned by the BMDV, there are 9,000 additional ultra-fast charging stations for electric cars at more than 1,000 locations in Germany currently being connected to the grid. These are located in rural regions, towns and unmanaged motorway rest areas. BayWa Mobility Solutions GmbH has secured the contract for the Bavarian tender lot. With an investment volume of around 15 million euros, 20 BayWa charging parks will be built in the coming years in order to close existing gaps in charging infrastructure. The company is making huge strides in this regard. In addition to the charging park in Schwangau, a new BayWa Mobility Charging Park is also being connected to the grid at the same time in Deggendorf.
The National Centre for Charging Infrastructure, under the umbrella of NOW GmbH and on behalf of the BMDV, assumes an important coordinating role in the roll-out of the Deutschlandnetz and is responsible in particular for demand planning, checking technical requirements as well as data monitoring of the locations.
Dagmar Fehler, CEO and Spokesperson of NOW GmbH: “Two new locations will strengthen the Deutschlandnetz now: In Schwangau with a clear view of Neuschwanstein castle as well as in Deggendorf, electric car drivers can from today, charge at two new fast-charging stations in Bavaria. A well-developed charging infrastructure is becoming increasingly more important, particularly for tourist regions like the Allgäu. It is also developing into an important regional economic factor.”
