Municipalities and regions implement environmental and transport concepts at the local level. They are an important driver and shaper in the local integration of alternative drives and fuels. They can shape the direction of concepts and take an active role in the conversion of municipal fleets. The establishment of networks and the exchange of knowledge and information is a key factor in jointly shaping the energy transition in mobility.

With the HyLand funding of hydrogen regions in Germany, municipalities and regions are to be specially motivated to develop initial ideas for integrated concepts, to define and formulate plans in concrete terms and to implement these plans with the support of the federal government, as per their current situation. The funding will take into account the varying knowledge and experience of the different regions. After all, all regions should have the chance to become a hydrogen region.

NOW also supports the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI – Bundesministerium für Verkehr und digitale Infrastruktur) in further developing the National Competence Network for Sustainable Urban Mobility (NaKoMo – Nationale Kompetenznetzwerk für nachhaltige urbane Mobilität). The network comprises the federal government, the federal states and municipalities, and was established in the context of the “Clean Air 2017-2020” immediate action programme to exchange information and share experiences in order to jointly make the development of emission-free mobility in municipalities more efficient and faster to implement.

The NOW online seminar provides an overview of municipal and regional activities and funding opportunities and takes a detailed look at the HyLand programme and the NaKoMo network.
