The energy transition poses many challenges for ports. Undertaking the handling processes and supplying ships with electricity directly in the port area while they are at berth has a major impact on the energy balance. This year’s symposium of the e4ports port network will therefore focus on the topic of “Zero Emission at the Quay” (“Zero Emission am Kai”). The focus will be on alternative drives for port handling equipment and solutions for mobile shore-side power supply.

The morning session will commence with the results of a study that examined technology options for the emission-free operation of cargo handling equipment being presented. In particular, the prerequisites of different technologies in various cargo handling equipment will be presented. Subsequently, the new Clean Port & Logistics (CPL) innovation cluster will present its goals and activities. CPL is testing hydrogen-powered equipment for port handling and heavy transport in a test field to accelerate their market ramp-up.

Noon will be devoted to the topic of mobile shore-side power supply. The results of the study entitled “Technological Possibilities and Prerequisites for Mobile Shore Power Supply” (“Technologische Möglichkeiten und Voraussetzungen mobiler Landstromversorgung”) will be discussed. In line with this, possibilities for the support of mobile shore-side power systems via the BordstromTech support scheme will be presented.

In a concluding panel discussion, the need for action in ports with regard to the energy transition will also be discussed against the backdrop of the e4ports activities presented.

Participation to the event is free of charge. However, a valid SMM ticket is required for access to the event premises. Tickets are available here.
