German-Chinese exchange on climate-friendly heavy-duty commercial vehicles

On 27 and 28 May, 2025, NOW GmbH and CATARC (China Automotive Technology & Research Center) organised two webinars on the topic of climate-friendly heavy-duty commercial vehicles with hydrogen and battery drives on behalf of the SGEC (Sino-German Electro-Mobility Innovation und Support Center). Around 40 experts from industry and research from both countries participated.

The first webinar focussed on battery-electric heavy-duty vehicles. NOW GmbH, CATARC, Contargo GmbH and DeepWay Technology Co., Ltd. provided an overview of market and framework conditions in Germany and China and presented concrete examples of application. The second webinar addressed heavy-duty commercial vehicles with hydrogen drives. In addition to presentations on market ramp-up and regulation, technological advances in refuelling and storage were also discussed. Speakers from NOW GmbH, CATARC, Daimler Truck and FTXT Energy Technology Co. Ltd. also presented current projects, including the European project PEGASUS, which aims to demonstrate the feasibility of hydrogen-powered long-distance trucks.

About the SGEC

Since 2018, the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) and the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) have had regular exchanges through the SGEC on the latest developments and framework conditions of electric mobility with batteries and fuel cells in Germany and China. The common goal is to further advance the market ramp-up of electric mobility through international exchange between Germany and China.
