FlächenTOOL: 300th site successfully brokered for development of charging infrastructure

The FlächenTOOL of the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure has reached a milestone: for the 300th time, a site has been successfully brokered to an operator (CPO) for the construction of charging infrastructure.

The site that has found its way via the FlächenTOOL to the operator Midorion, is located in Karlsruhe. In the Weiherfeld-Dammerstock district, an AC charging station with two, 22 kW charging points was installed. The charging station was recently officially commissioned in the presence of the Mayor, city representatives as well as the operating company.

As part of the new design of parking areas, the city took the opportunity to lay cables for charging infrastructure in anticipation of civil engineering work. The location was then published on the FlächenTOOL and successfully brokered.

The location is very close to several sports facilities, on a side street of the Landstrasse L561 in the south of Karlsruhe. It is easily accessible via the A5, which is connected to the L561 to the south. Residents, sport enthusiasts as well as visitors to the surrounding recreational and forested areas are among the main users of the new charging facilities.

Johannes Pallasch, Head and Spokesperson of the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure under the umbrella of NOW GmbH remarked: “Almost 300 successfully brokered sites confirms that FlächenTOOL works in practice. It makes networking between site owners and operator companies easier, thus making a substantial contribution to installing charging facilities in a targeted manner, precisely where they are needed.”

Number of sites and user profiles increasing, functions are being further developed

  • More than 2,700 properties are currently available, registered by various parties (federal states, municipalities, companies, private individuals).
  •  Over 140 profiles are listed of investors looking to build charging infrastructure, seek locations using the FlächenTOOL and make contact with site owners there.
  • Since March, public tenders can be directly linked to sites in the FlächenTOOL. Already six tenders with over 200 sites have been integrated in this way. Investors can search in a targeted way through a filter function for publicly advertised sites and display them. Users access the relevant tender portal with further information through a link.
  • Outlook: Additional functions will come online shortly. New queries and filters specifically for sites that are suitable for truck charging will tap into additional user groups and thereby support the expansion of charging infrastructure in the heavy duty transport sector as well.

About FlächenTOOL

FlächenTOOL is a digital matching platform of the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure under the umbrella of NOW GmbH. Available sites for the installation of charging infrastructure are registered in the online tool and can be found by investors. These investors can in turn, contact site owners via the platform. The aim is to give all market actors access to land offers in a non-discriminatory way. Launched in November 2020, the concept has now been adopted beyond national borders: Under the names Pro-Charging (Luxemberg) and Ladegrund (Austria), both platforms are based on the basic idea of FlächenTOOL – matching supply of and demand for land..
