The goal of the Deutschlandnetz is clear: The next fast-charging station should be just a few minutes away anywhere in Germany. To achieve this, around 9,000 publicly accessible charging points are being created – at around 900 regional locations in cities and rural areas, as well as at 200 locations along motorways. Drivers already benefit from 100 regional locations and 25 motorway locations – all equipped with ultra-fast HPC charging points (with more than 200 kW of power).
Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder: “With the 100th regional location of the Deutschlandnetz, we are impressively demonstrating that we are moving quickly to ensure that everyone can charge reliably and quickly everywhere. This success is only possible because the federal government, operators and local authorities are pulling together. In this way, we are creating confidence in the switch to electric cars, promoting climate protection in transport and strengthening Germany’s attractiveness as a business location.”
The federal government is investing around €2.3 billion in the development of the Deutschlandnetz. Since the opening of the first location at the end of 2023, the network has been growing steadily. Between June and August 2025 alone, 48 new charging parks were connected to the network. A further 40 regional locations in urban and rural areas and 58 motorway locations are currently under construction. The network is expected to be largely complete by the end of 2026.
Dagmar Fehler, CEO and spokesperson for NOW GmbH: “The National Centre for Charging Infrastructure is supporting the Deutschlandnetz from the idea phase through to implementation.
The 100th regional location is a great success for the BMV, for us at NOW, for our local partners and, above all, for electric car drivers, who can now charge quickly and conveniently throughout Germany. The Deutschlandnetz is making a significant contribution to a nationwide charging infrastructure in Germany, rendering electric mobility even more suitable for everyday use.
The National Centre for Charging Infrastructure coordinates the implementation of the Deutschlandnetz under the umbrella of NOW GmbH. It is responsible for demand planning, technical testing and data monitoring of the locations.
Figures on the current state of expansion (as at September 2025):
- Deutschlandnetz locations opened: 125 with 746 charging points
- Of which regional locations: 100
- Of which motorway locations: 25
- Deutschlandnetz locations under construction: 98 with 552 charging points
- Of which regional locations: 40
