New Deutschlandnetz charging park from EWE Go and HOCHTIEF goes into operation in Oer-Erkenschwick

With the new fast-charging park on Horneburger Straße in Oer-Erkenschwick, EWE Go and HOCHTIEF are expanding the Deutschlandnetz network with an L location. Around seven months after the ground-breaking ceremony in February 2025, the joint venture’s largest and first covered location to date is going into operation.

The charging park comprises 12 high-power charging (HPC) points and enables fast charging at up to 400 kW per charging station with 100 percent green electricity. The new charging park is located right next to a retail complex with a fast food restaurant and DIY store. This means that the location is not only conveniently situated in terms of transport, but also offers opportunities to pass the time while charging.

“With the new fast-charging park in Oer-Erkenschwick, EWE Go and HOCHTIEF are demonstrating what state-of-the-art electric mobility can look like: sustainable, powerful and practical for everyday use,” emphasised Dr Christian Friege, Chief Marketing Officer at EWE AG, at the opening ceremony. “At EWE, we have been committed to sustainability and climate protection for many years. In addition to green energy services, our commitment to green hydrogen and many other activities, we place a special focus on electric mobility. With this and many other EWE Go projects, we want to drive forward the mobility transition and contribute to achieving the German government’s climate targets.”

“With this charging park, we are showing how the future is becoming a reality. Where there used to be a parking area, a space has been created where mobility, sustainability and innovation come together. By working with our partners, we have realised a project that stands for climate protection and progress – and paves the way for a climate-neutral infrastructure,” highlights Peter Coenen, Managing Director of HOCHTIEF PPP Solutions GmbH.

Part of the Deutschlandnetz and contribution towards national charging coverage

The charging park in Oer-Erkenschwick is one of 40 projects that EWE Go and HOCHTIEF have already completed or are currently constructing as part of the Deutschlandnetz which was initiated by the Federal Ministry of Transport. And another 30 are planned. The focus is on locations where public charging facilities have not been a common sight to date.

As part of the project, the Federal Ministry of Transport put out a tender for charging parks with almost 9,000 fast charging points at around 1,000 locations. At the end of 2023, EWE Go and HOCHTIEF were awarded the contract to jointly implement around 850 charging points in the north-west and west regions – from financing and planning to construction and operation. The areas cover North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, Bremen and Hamburg, as well as parts of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein. EWE Go is responsible for the technical implementation and ongoing operation. HOCHTIEF is contributing its experience as an infrastructure service provider to the planning and construction of the charging parks. The National Centre for Charging Infrastructure, under the umbrella of NOW GmbH, coordinates the implementation of the Deutschlandnetz and is responsible in particular for demand planning, testing technical requirements and data monitoring at the locations.
