Putting environmentally friendly buses on the road – that’s how a swift contribution to climate protection targets can be made in the area of public transport. The current call for submissions supports just such projects.

The technology-neutral “Guideline for the Support of Alternative Drives for Buses in Passenger Transport” (Richtlinie zur Förderung alternativer Antriebe von Bussen im Personenverkehr) supports the procurement of battery, fuel cell and battery trolley buses as well as biomethane-powered buses of the vehicle classes M2 and M3. Also eligible for funding are the corresponding feasibility studies and the necessary infrastructure.

The guideline is aimed specifically at transport operators. According to current financial planning, a total of 1.25 billion euros is available for technology-neutral funding up to 2024, supplemented by further funding in 2025. The support envisaged under this funding guideline is part of the German government’s Climate Protection Program 2030 to implement the Climate Protection Plan 2050 and the Future Package of the German government’s Economic Stimulus Package.
