Private investors, cities and municipalities can once again submit applications for funding for the development of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, as of 22 June 2020. In its sixth funding call for the “Charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in Germany” funding guideline, the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI – Bundesministerium für Verkehr und digitale Infrastruktur) is supporting the establishment of up to 3,000 normal and 1,500 fast charging points.
Applications can be submitted via the easy-Online Portal until 22 July 2020. Eligible to receive funding are investments related to hardware as well as grid connection costs for normal and fast charging points.
With this call for funding, charging points located in parking lots of day-care centres, hospitals and sports grounds as well as those within town centres are also being especially supported. Accordingly, just as in the fifth funding call, this sixth call will allow funding to be granted even if public access to the charging points is not continuously available. Accessibility must be provided for at least 12 hours each weekday.
The sixth call for funding also uses the web-based StandortTOOL location tool, which identifies supply gaps in the nationwide charging network. The information incorporated in the tool includes traffic and mobility data, user data on electric vehicles and socio-economic data. The aim of the Federal Charging Infrastructure Programme is to establish a nationwide charging infrastructure with 15,000 charging points nationwide. The BMVI is providing a total of 300 million euros for this purpose by the end of 2020. Private investors, cities and municipalities can apply for funding. The funding covers up to 50 percent of the eligible costs and, in addition to the construction of the charging point, also covers the grid connection and installation. Among the prerequisites for funding is that the charging points are publicly accessible and operated with electricity from renewable sources.
