Hydrogen plays a key role in the implementation of measures in the field of so-called sector coupling: Hydrogen makes it possible to efficiently use, store and transport the renewable energy generated in Northern Germany by intelligently combining the energy sources electricity, heat and gas, to relieve the strain on the electricity grids and thus to reduce the costs caused by grid bottlenecks in particular. The concepts are correspondingly diverse, for example in electrolysis, a process by which hydrogen is produced from wind power, then stored temporarily, transported and finally used at the point of consumption in transport or industrial applications, for example in steel, aluminium or copper production. But what exactly are the advantages of hydrogen? How economical will its use be in the future? And what will the next steps be in northern Germany?
A network of various project management centres, trade associations and chambers of commerce, universities and research initiatives supports the WOCHE DES WASSERSTOFFS Nord.
It takes place on the initiative and under the planning and coordination responsibility of H2 MOBILITY Germany, which is one of the main players nationwide in the development of a nationwide hydrogen filling station infrastructure.
In 2020, the northern German states will create a framework within which hydrogen applications can be experienced, tried out and discussed: during the WOCHE DES WASSERSTOFFS Nord in June 2020, events, openings, test drives, lectures and presentations will contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of hydrogen and fuel cell technology.
