World shipping handles 90% of global goods transport and is responsible for around 3% of global CO2 emissions. In this context, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the European Maritime Safety Organization (EMSA) have adopted binding CO2 reduction targets. This sends a strong signal to shipyards, shipping companies, energy suppliers, engine manufacturers, classification societies and the supply industry to invest even faster and more heavily in alternative propulsion technologies and green fuels in the future.

On the occasion of the established world’s leading trade fair for the shipping industry, SMM, which takes place in Hamburg from September 6 to 9, 2022, we would like to present selected maritime demonstration projects with alternative propulsion systems and fuels and discuss measures in the context of zero-emission shipping.

We would be very pleased to welcome you to this event:

e4ships & Zero-Emission Shipping Symposium

September 8, 2022, 10:15 – 17:15

SMM (Messeplatz 1, 20357 Hamburg, Room St. Petersburg 1-3)
or online participation

We recommend you to register soon as on-site capacity is limited.

The first part of the event is dedicated to the innovation cluster e4ships – Fuel Cells in Maritime Applications – funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport as part of the National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Innovation Program (NIP). In addition, the results of individual demonstration projects will be presented, in which leading companies in the shipping and fuel cell industries have focused at an early stage on developing and testing fuel cell systems along the specific needs of shipping.

In the afternoon, the focus will be on alternative marine propulsion systems and fuels in general.  Experts from the maritime industry and high-ranking political representatives will present and discuss cross-technology initiatives and strategic measures for the market ramp-up of alternative marine propulsion systems and sustainable renewable fuels for maritime applications.
