The information was obtained in the course of confidential consultations with the most important European truck manufacturers in April and May 2024 (so-called cleanroom talks) with representatives of the German federal transport ministry, NOW GmbH, and a law firm commissioned to ensure compliance with antitrust laws. The consultations were a follow-up to the first cleanroom talks in 2022.
The now published update shows that the market ramp-up of climate-friendly commercial vehicles has become much more concrete. New regulatory framework conditions, such as the introduction of a CO2 component in the truck toll and the tightening of the European CO2 fleet target values for heavy commercial vehicles, seem to be contributing to this.
