Federal Minister Schnieder presents ‘Charging Infrastructure Master Plan 2030’

Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder today presented the new Charging Infrastructure Master Plan 2030 at the Charging Infrastructure Conference of the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV). The federal cabinet had adopted the master plan the previous day. It forms the central strategic framework of the federal government for the further expansion of charging infrastructure in Germany.

Federal Transport Minister Schnieder: “Our strategy for charging infrastructure expansion over the coming years has been established. With the new Charging Infrastructure Master Plan 2030, the federal government is underlining its determination to make electric mobility successful and charging as natural as refuelling. Our goal is clear: whoever wants to recharge must be able to recharge – conveniently, simply and everywhere in Germany. The measures contained in the Charging Infrastructure Master Plan 2030 will improve charging facilities for customers. At the same time, they will make it easier for the charging sector to offer attractive products. Now is the time to deliver these measures consistently and quickly. Today’s charging infrastructure conference is a great launch pad for this.”

The master plan comprises 41 concrete measures that aim to further improve investment, licensing and user conditions for the development of charging infrastructure. These include a strengthening of competition in charging services, more transparency for charging prices as well as better integration of charging infrastructure in the power grid. In addition, the master plan provides important impetus for innovations such as bidirectional charging.

A key component are new BMV funding programmes for charging infrastructure in multi-unit residences, at depots, and commercial storage facilities.

Around 500 participants are discussing the implementation of the master plan and current electric mobility trends today at the BMV charging infrastructure conference in Berlin. The conference is already taking place for the fourth time and is organised by NOW GmbH and the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure. In addition to the presentation of the master plan, highlights include the keynote speech by Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, as well as a high-level panel discussion with Federal Minister Schnieder, Hildegard Müller (VDA), Kerstin Andreae (BDEW) and Jeroen van Tilburg (IONITY). Municipal charging infrastructure expansion and charging e-trucks up to 2030 are some of the topics in focus in other panel discussions.

Johannes Pallasch, Head and Spokesperson of the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure under the umbrella of NOW GmbH: “We now have a well-developed public charging network in Germany, with more than 180,000 charging points. And with each new charging station that is installed, our vision of ‘Simple Charging’ comes closer to daily reality. The transition to climate-friendly mobility is now taking place, but we must actively shape it so that it progresses more quickly and broadly. The Charging Infrastructure Master Plan 2030 provides the new framework. The National Centre for Charging Infrastructure is delighted to be able to support the BMV in implementing those measures.”

The National Centre for Charging Infrastructure is presenting several new services commissioned by the BMV at the conference, including:

The conference will be recorded and made available after the event on the NOW GmbH YouTube-channel.
