NOW GmbH is publishing a new factsheet containing basic knowledge on the climate impact of aviation. It explains CO2 and non-CO2 effects concisely and illustrates what options are available for designing climate-friendly aviation with today’s technology.

Aviation is currently responsible for around 3 to 5 per cent of global anthropogenic climate change. While it sounds rather small, this portion will increase in future due to steady growth in the sector. Aviation is viewed as a particularly challenging sector for defossilisation because of the longer life and development cycles of aircraft, high safety requirements as well as other factors. If the defossilisation of other sectors increases more rapidly, the percentage share of aviation in climate change will increase.

A new factsheet by NOW GmbH is therefore highlighting the role of aviation in detail, what specific problematic emissions are occurring and what climate-friendly solutions could be available.
