The charging stations and buses were funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) under the ‘Guideline for the Promotion of Buses with Alternative Drive Systems in Passenger Transport’. Funding for this measure was also provided as part of the German Recovery and Resilience Plan (DARP) through the European Recovery and Resilience Facility (ARF) in the NextGenerationEU program. The funding guideline was coordinated by NOW GmbH and implemented by Project Management Jülich (PtJ).
Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder said: “Clean, modern buses are a crucial component of passenger transport. They make public transport more appealing and directly contribute to climate protection. That is why the Federal Ministry of Transport is specifically supporting transport companies in making the switch to environmentally-friendly drive systems. We are funding Kieler Verkehrsgesellschaft with around 19.9 million euros – an important boost to efficient and climate-friendly local transport in the region.”
KVG Managing Director Andreas Schulz added: “With the electrification of our depot on Diedrichstrasse and other locations we now have the opportunity to operate local transport on all KVG routes using fully electric vehicles.”
