Working Group for Hydrogen, Fuel Cells, and Electromobility at Airports
The Airports Working Group is a central forum for the decarbonization of the airport apron. It connects airports, industry, research, and associations so that technological innovations, regulatory requirements, and political objectives are advanced hand in hand.
NOW GmbH coordinates the Airports Working Group and gathers the members twice a year, digitally and on-site, to jointly shape developments, projects, and regulatory issues. The Working Group is a unique place for exchange, where large and small airports work together with partners from industry and research on solutions for climate-friendly aviation.
Areas of responsibility of the AG Airports
- Further development of the electrification of vehicles and Ground Support Equipment, including ground power supply
- Development of charging and refueling infrastructure for batteries and hydrogen on the air and land side
- Preparation of infrastructure for hydrogen aircraft and Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF)
- Implementation of projects in the field of sustainability, environmental and energy management
- Analysis of regulatory requirements such as AFIR, ReFuelEU, or TEN-V and discussion of their national implementation
The work of the Working Group is closely linked to the activities of the Federal Government. National funding and coordinated measures make it possible not only to meet international requirements but to exceed them efficiently and in a targeted manner. This paves the way for an accelerated introduction of new technologies in airport operations.
The Airports Working Group is therefore more than just a technical committee: It creates the framework for an open exchange at the working level, where experience is pooled, synergies are used, and joint strategies are developed. This format strengthens the ability of all participants to act and makes a decisive contribution to advancing the transformation of air transport in Germany.
