NOW – the National Organisation for Transformation in Mobility
As a federally owned company, we coordinate and support strategic projects in the field of climate-friendly mobility and sustainable energy supply. Our goal is to promote innovative technologies such as electromobility and charging infrastructure, hydrogen and fuel cells, and alternative fuels, thereby contributing to the achievement of climate goals.

Who we are
NOW is a large team of experts from a wide range of fields. Our team currently comprises around 180 specialists from the fields of engineering, business administration, political, social and communication sciences.
NOW GmbH’s founding mission is the National Innovation Programme Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP). NOW’s order portfolio has expanded considerably since its foundation in 2008 – and the ‘National Organisation Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology’ has now become the ‘National Organisation for Transformation in Mobility’.
What we do
As a federally owned GmbH, we accept orders from so-called supreme federal authorities, i.e. federal ministries. We ensure the efficient implementation of federal funding programmes in the field of sustainable mobility and energy supply, advise policymakers and ensure a constant exchange of knowledge via our networks in industry, municipalities, municipal companies, associations, politics and science. On behalf, we support strategic stakeholder processes, shape international cooperations and are committed to the acceptance of alternative technologies in society.
Technologically, our tasks today include the areas of hydrogen, fuel cells, batteries, regenerative fuels and liquefied natural gas – both on the drive and fuel side and on the infrastructure side. For example, the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure was founded under the umbrella of NOW GmbH in December 2019.
How we work
Our topics are important to us. We work with commitment and sustainably, and look for creative solutions, sometimes alone, sometimes in a team. Advising, networking, controlling and evaluating, collecting and disseminating knowledge is our daily business. Each and every one of us has our own expertise and takes responsibility – we can rely on this in our daily interactions. And all those with whom we work together trust in this: the public sector, industry and science.
