Funding dashboard: Ground power at airports
How much funding has been approved? Which German airports have received funding? And what impact does the procurement of environmentally friendly supply systems for aircraft with ground power at airports have on the climate?
NOW GmbH provides comprehensive and technology-neutral support for the implementation of funding programs for the defossilization of air transport in the areas of research & development and investment. The dashboard shows funding data for ground power at airports, focusing primarily on approved projects from the German Federal Ministry for Transport’s ground power directive.
Since 2023, funding measures for aviation stakeholders have been implemented on this basis. The focus is on investment grants for the climate-friendly provision of ground power at airports and the construction of associated, non-public charging infrastructure.
An electronic Ground Power Unit (eGPU) is a battery-powered ground power unit that provides aircraft on the ground with clean and emission-free energy to operate systems such as avionics, lighting and air conditioning without the use of aircraft engines or the APU. In contrast to conventional diesel GPUs, eGPUs are quieter, reduce fuel consumption and can also be used in hangars.
