Metallic hydrogen high-pressure storage system for mobile fuel cell applications 2025+

The main challenge on the path towards the application of hydrogen fuel cell technology in passenger cars is the difficult integration of the tank into the vehicle architecture. This leads to high consequential costs associated with the vehicle chassis. The innovative approach pursued in the HySteelStore project of a modular tank system based on individual storage bodies made of seamless steel tubes is suitable for installation in the BEV chassis platforms that will dominate in the future with battery modules in the underbody. The steel-based approach offers numerous advantages in terms of geometric flexibility, costs and sustainability in direct comparison to CFRP tanks.
