A fleet of electric vehicles and bicycles is to be operated that is integrated in the public transport network, for example, with a combined ticket that can be spontaneously used in the city and surroundings. This will be linked with various tourism offers and activities. A car sharing system is to be established for the residents of selected districts, which will not only incorporate electric cars, but also electric bicycles and scooters. City logistics concepts for the environmentally friendly supply to the Capital City region are to be tested without needing to compromise on high delivery flexibility or performance. The projects are also to be supported with various marketing and communication measures.
Embedding in the region
The Berlin/Potsdam model region aims to exploit the potentials of electromobility in the Capital City region from the perspective of transportation, energy, environment and urban development. The need for action of policy-makers is to be determined and is oriented to the strategic goals of the transport development plans of Berlin/Potsdam, the respective city local public transport plans and the climate protection programme. New mobility services and business models are to be developed and tested – with a supplementary goal of strengthening Berlin/Brandenburg as a region for science and research.
Focus
At the forefront is the execution and evaluation of various integrated, operator-run practical projects to assess the effects of integrating electromobility in public transport, tourism, housing services and city logistics, and to draw conclusions on the impact for business and politics. A charging infrastructure in public areas enabling discrimination-free access serves as an important bracket around the initiative.
